WHY JESUS CAME INTO THE WORLD

Who was Jesus Christ and why was he born?  Isaiah said “for unto us a child is born; unto us a son is given.”  Here was one who is totally different from all others who have been born. He who was the eternal Son of God entered our human life by a real birth.  His becoming Man did not mean that he ceased to be God.  His humanity did not take away from or negate his deity.  No, his two natures were perfectly combined forming the perfect God-Man, fully God and truly man.  Think of the love and grace that gave him!  His name is Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.  He who is co-eternal, co-equal, with the Father, became one of us.  How this thought should brighten our days and encourage us along difficult ways. God loves us and sent his Son to be one of us, to die for us, to be raised for us , to make us his very own so that one day we can be with him for ever.  Would you now  stop and reflect upon what it means to us that Jesus Christ came into this world.?

1.     Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners.  “This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners of whom I am chief.”  1 Timothy 1:15

2.     Jesus Christ came into the world to call sinners to repentance.  “When Jesus heard it, he said unto them , they that are well  have no need of a physician, but they that are sick; I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”  Mark 2:17

3.     Jesus Christ came into the world to seek and to save that which was lost.  “For the Son of Man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.”  Luke 19:10

4.     Jesus Christ came into the world to show us where real meaning comes in life and to give his life a ransom for many.  “Even as the Son of Man  came not to be ministered  unto , but to minister and to give his life a ransom for many.”  Matthew 20:28 . See also John 12:25-26.

5.     Jesus Christ came into the world to do the will of his Father.  “For I am come down   from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him that sent me.”  John 6:38

6.     Jesus Christ came into the world to be the Light of the world.  “I am come a light into the world that whosoever  believeth on me should not abide in darkness.” John12:46  See also John 8:12

7.     Jesus Christ came into the world that men might have life and have it more abundantly.  “I am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly.” John 10:10b

8.     Jesus Christ came into the world to bear witness to the truth and to be a King.  “Pilate  therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then?  Jesus answered, Thou sayest  that I am a king.  To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world that I should bear witness to the truth.  Everyone that is of the truth heareth my voice.”  John 18:37

9.     Jesus Christ came into the world to destroy the works of the devil.  “ For this purpose the Son of God  was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.”  1 John 3:8

10.  Jesus Christ came into the world to preach the good news about the Kingdom of God.  “And he said unto them, Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also;  for therefore came I forth.”  Mark 1:38

11.  Jesus Christ came into this world to judge the world.  “And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into the world into this world, that they which see might not  see; and that they which see might be made blind.”  John 9:39

12.  Jesus Christ came into the world to die on the cross.  “ Now is my soul troubled, and what shall I say? Father save me from this hour; but for this cause came I unto this hour.”  John 12:27

13.  Jesus Christ came into the world to fulfill the law.  “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets, but to fulfill.”  Matthew 5:17

14.  Jesus Christ came into the world  because the Father sent him. “Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you:  as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.”  John 20:21

A.    The Father sent Jesus to be the propitiation (satifaction) for our sins.  “Herein  is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”  1 John 4:10

B.    The Father sent Jesus to be the Saviour of sinners.  “For unto you is born this day in the city of David  a saviour who is Christ the Lord.”  Luke 2:11  “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son,  that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.  For God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved.  He that believeth on him is not condemned; but he that believeth not is condemned already because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God”  John 3:16-18

C.    The Father sent the Son to redeem us from the curse of the law.  “But when the fullness of  time was come , God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, to redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.” Galatians 4:5-6

D.   The Father sent the Son to bring us to Him.  “For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but made quickened by the Spirit.” 1 Peter 3:18

E.    The Father sent his Son to give us a new power for living.  “ For what the law could not do,  in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh  and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh; that the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us who walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit. Romans 8:3-4

15.  Jesus Christ came into the world to demonstrate God’s love toward us.  “ In this was the love of God manifest toward us.”  1 John 4:9

This Christmas let us think upon God’s most precious gift, and not our gifts.

Not even God a greater gift could give,

                    Nor heaven itself a dearer boon impart;

When Jesus came, and died that I might live,

God gave without reserve His very heart.
