GOD’S GOODNESS
‘Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life (Psalm 23:6)
The goodness and mercy of God shall ever follow and overtake me while I follow the leading of the Good Shepherd who loved his sheep and gave himself for them. And I will need both goodness and mercy for my journey; mercy to shield me from what I justly deserve, and goodness to provide me what I do not really deserve. And where will this journey finally end? It will end in the Father’s house where I shall dwell forever with fullness of fellowship with the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit, and all the redeemed of the ages. It will end in the new heaven and the new earth where there is no more sickness, no more sorrow, no more sin, no more death, only righteousness flowing like a mighty river. It will end in a place of indescribable beauty, bountiful blessings and provisions and fullness of joy. It will end in perfect worship of and enjoyment of our God and savior. And the last part of that verse reminds us that there shall be no end to that blessedness for the Psalmists says “And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” God’s grace provides goodness and mercy all the days of my life here and sweetness of relationship and fellowship hereafter. How precious the blood of Christ should be to us. What great things He has provided for us who delight in the gospel of Christ.
